Renée studied playwriting with the esteemed founder and director of the Ensemble Studio Theatre in NYC, Curt Dempster. Renée's first full-length musical, 54 - the musical, was conceived during the summer of 2009 thanks to an excellent iTunes playlist and a decent car stereo and actually written whilst alternate-side-of-the-street parking in Manhattan the fall of 2009. It was registered with the DGA in March 2010, received a copyright in June 2010, was informally read around a dining table sometime thereafter and subsequently read in December 2010 at the historic Gramercy Theatre (now concert venue) in NYC. A more formal (private) table reading was enjoyed at the Lark Theatre in NYC in the Spring of 2012 and after a successful Indie Go-Go Campaign where over $10,000 was raised in just over two months, a staged and choreographed concert production of 54 - the musical was unveiled at The Cutting Room on November 11th, 2012 to a sold-out crowd. The Spring of 2014 found 54 - the musical being awarded the feature festival spot in Emerging Artists Theatre's New Work Series (PLAYBILL.COM) and was, once again, SOLD OUT!!
Most recently a staged and fully choreographed "FunkRaiser" on behalf of 54 - the musical was presented at The House of Independents, a brand new state-of-the-art venue in downtown Asbury Park, NJ where the audience finally had the opportunity to become part of the action in a truncated version of this ingenious immersive production, thanks to HOI's retractable stadium seating.
54 - the musical is currently in development for Broadway with a workshop production slated for 2017 - the 40th ANNIVERSARY of the legendary STUDIO 54 in NYC!!!
