Renée Bang Allen

Reviews

"Renée Bang Allen play(s) the various adults with malevolence you could cut with a knife, but (does) it in fine voice and presence." - Ruth Ross, njartsmaven.com

"...singer Renée Bang made her cabaret debut with "Mood Swings," a program of songs mainly from the 30's and 40's, with fine arrangements by her and musical director Daryl Kojak. She is a talented and appealing performer, and this was an impressive first show. She did "Just Squeeze Me, " "Do It Again," and "Shiny Stockings" playfully and seductively, a pleasing blend of wit and sexiness. A medley of "Sing, Sing, Sing," "Stompin' at the Savoy," and "It Don't Mean a Thing" was robust, the ballad "Can't Get Out of This Mood" was measured but heartfelt, and her rendition of "I Can't Get Started" had an ease that was stylistically absolutely right." - Roy Sander, BackStage

"Renée Bang is asked to stay on stage; she stands behind a chair, starts "The Boy Next Door" softly...she doesn't seem rattled when the photographer clumsily drops his gear...by the song's end she's showing she's got the pipes, was just building the song, and will belt now. Renée finishes with a bang, and gets nice applause." - Peter Filichia, TheatreWeek

"Renée Bang's night club act, called MOOD SWINGS, featuring the Daryl Kojak Trio, does indeed swing from toe-tapper to torch to scatty-jazzy to comic to romantic, and it's all first class. As the song says: she's lovely to look at, delightful to hear, in all her moods. Her torch voice is rich and velvety; in uptempo numbers she is sharp and lively; her eyes twinkle in "Don't You Go 'Way Mad," and with the fine backing of the excellent trio, her beauty and charm shine in all the songs in the enchanting hour set." - Richmond Shepard, The Wall Street Transcript
